Inessa Ormond Inessa Ormond has had a passion for justice and the care of the environment for many decades, particularly in preserving Canada's natural beauty and liveability. She took part in the Peace Marches in Vancouver in the 1970s to keep the province nuclear-free and the protest against clear cut logging in Clayoquot Sound in 1993 and more recently in the Climate Strike in Victoria in September 2019. She has also participated in protests and boycotts against the wars in Vietnam and Iraq, against apartheid in South Africa, and for justice for Palestinians. She writes that "Perhaps the most important thing about these actions is that they led me to look more deeply into the issues and the realities of our world. And in some mysterious way they were an important part of my journey toward God and the Catholic Church, becoming a Lay Dominican, and appreciating Pope Francis' encyclical, Laudato Si." She worked for five years at MOSAIC, which provides services to immigrants, and for two years at SPEC, an environmental organization. She is now retired and living in Sidney on Vancouver Island. She is the mother of three and the grandmother of six.
